For those with an interest in the archaeological history of the cinema, Made in New Jersey from Milestone via Kino, will be one of the indispensable releases of the year.

Created with a passion for keeping history alive by Richard Koszarski and the wonderful folks from Milestone, it's a love poem sharing some of wonderful examples of Fort Lee motion pictures from just after the turn of the century - the last one.

With 14 short films produced between 1910 and 1918, plus a documentary, it will serve as a means of keeping the history of the beginnings of motion pictures alive here in the Colonies. Condition varies from beautiful to viewable, but personally I couldn't care less. That's not what this is about.

For the uninitiated, just know that before there was Hollywood, and before there was the studio system - there was Fort Lee.

Allow this release to fill in some missing history for you, and help preserve films at the same time.

Music tracks are from Donald Sosin, Rodney Sauer and the Mont Alto Orchestra, Ben Model and Philip Carli.

I love these silent-era collections Kino Lorber has been putting out, this time from the Milestone library. Their taking over of Milestone's distribution has been a small miracle. Can't wait to check this one out.
