Live by Night, Ben Affleck's fourth film as director received very mixed reviews, and while it may have it's problems, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Set during the bootleg era, and shot around Boston, LA and a very steamy Savannah, it's magnificently produced, with gorgeous work representing the era. If anything, it's at times too gorgeous.

I saw it originally on DVD, and the Blu-ray from WB is a magnificent affair, as it's a true 4k sourced product based upon cinematography in large format digital as well as 65mm.

What's interesting, is that while much of the film is outstandingly highly resolved, especially streets and other outdoor locations, shots of Mr. Affleck are created a bit on the soft side. I believe I had read somewhere, that he was digitally "thinned" for some shots, which, if correct, could be the cause.

Since Mr. Affleck's work has been followed after the initial home video release with longer, or different cuts, hopefully we'll be treated to a 4k of Live by Night, as the image will absolutely hold up to the resolution.

Like the image, audio via Dolby Atmos, is superlative.
