One for the Ages
The packaging, and by that I mean the slipcover for Russell Macahy's 1986 fantasy adventure Highlander, is quite special.
While SteelBook aficionados may not be impressed, Lionsgate has gone the high road to make this something special.
First, it's the design of slipcovers that has rounded corners, which achieves a sort of homespun appearance.
The base of the imagery is fully reflective silver, upon which are layers of inks and dyes - some from the far east, others harvested by virgin nuns in the peaks of the Himalayas.
Overall are shades of blue, from a delicate light shade, to the deepest of navy blues with an incredible tonality.
At the very top of the obverse are embossed the words "THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE," which one would presume has something to do with the story-line.
Below center are the names of the lead players - Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery --
And then the title of the film - HIGHLANDER - in all caps in its own special typeface, but the color is outstanding. Initially it seems to be an extremely bright yellow - again printed atop the silver iridescence that literally jumps off the packaging - also beautifully embossed. But upon closer examination, I'd reference the color to be more of a citrine.
Below, the director's name, and at the very bottom "DIRECTOR'S CUT."
If you're going to get on board, you'll want this very special first edition packaging.
Image - 5 (Dolby Vision)
Audio – 5 (DTS-HD MA 5.1)
Pass / Fail – Pass
Plays nicely with projectors - Yes
Makes use of and works well in 4k - 2.5
Upgrade from Blu-ray - No
