Based upon the work of R. Crumb, Fritz the Cat and the sequel Nine Lives, were the antidote to Disney purity.
There's nary a princess, nor cute mouse in sight.
Not heavily animated, and holding the Crumb style, these films are very much of their era, representing the late 1960s and early '70s.
The first, directed by Ralph Bakshi (Lord of the Rings, Heavy Traffic, Wizards) created the wonderful style for which he is known. The second, from Robert Taylor, also an animator on Mr. Bakshi's works, continues the legend.
Filled with the wonders of animation dust, which actually makes it appear original, colors pop and dazzle.
I'm presuming that these are derived from IPs, and they look fine. Nothing extraordinary, but they're perfect for the subject matter and source materials.
Please note that Fritz is unrated.
