Lionsgate continues their upgrades to 4k with Sam Raimi's follow-up to his immensely popular Evil Dead, with 2.

While the 1981 original was shot in S16, 2 made it to 35, and the difference, especially in 4k, is a joy to behold.

Everything has fallen into place here, for a typically superior 4k release.

I've owned pretty much every iteration of this movie (including the Blood-Red Laserdisc) and this release, by far, trumps them all. Watched it on the Sony OLED 65A9F and wow. The detail is actually incredible, and the HDR/colours work wonderfully.

Even the original film, The Evil Dead, has a slight detail edge on 4K that is noticeable over the previous Blu-ray when doing on-the-fly switching (two Oppo players, on a Sony 65Z9F, HD calibrated for D65 BT.709 100nits and UHD calibrated, D65 to 1500nits rolling off from there, and hitting UHD-P3 targets). While not a major uptick in detail, the UHD-HDR edition has some serious advantages in the contrast department. Headlights and lightbulbs in the darkness...much brighter. The HD edition looks flat in comparison.
