Aside from Mr. Ford in his pre-talkie days, Sam Raimi may be one of the most prolific filmmakers out there. Between producing, writing, exec producing, and directing, he's able to juggle a ton of projects.

His 2009 Drag Me to Hell takes him back to his horror roots, with the delightful tale of a mid-level bank employee trying to position herself for a step up against potentially unfair competition. She's pushed to make decision she would ordinarily would not have made, and all hell breaks loose.

That decision is to force an old gypsy woman out of her home for non-payment.

You generally want to think twice before doing this, especially if the women in question appears a bit odd - dead eye, petrified finger nails. In this case, it's Lorna Raver, and she's not the kindly old Maria Ouspenskaya type.

Alison Lohman is the banker is jeopardy, and she proves herself to be a wonderful scream queen.

Horror film / comedy / thriller combo all works to entertain, and the imagery works beautifully in Dolby Vision. Shot on film (S35), with Peter Deming behind the camera, Scream Factory's new 4k UHD represents the film beautifully based upon Universal's image harvest.

The track in DTS-HD MA 5.1 is proscenium filling, and them jump scares are in your face.

Both the theatrical as well as the Unrated cuts are included on three discs, with as many extras - interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and documentaries - as you'll find on the most fan adulated labels.

Scream Factory has done a beautiful job here is creating a true Collector's Edition of a superbly fun film.

As Roger Ebert, my favorite film reviewer noted in 2009: "As Boss Gettys says of Citizen Kane, “He’s going to need more than one lesson, and he’s going to get more than one lesson.” Christine learns these lessons: (a) Never say no to an old gypsy woman with a blind eye and leprous fingernails; (2) Never dig a grave during the thunderstorm of the century; (3) If she calls Clay Dalton [Justin Long] when she needs him, that will be too late. Little could the poor girl have anticipated that a time would come when the penalty for approving the old gypsy woman’s home loan application would be her whole bank being dragged down to hell."
