What about Ms. Hyde?

Not to get too far off topic, but the only reason I saw this was because of a hilarious radio campaign featuring Gilbert Gottfried. He's not in the movie at all. The movie was so bad I tried to get a refund for false advertising, but it didn't work.

Still not as bad as Jekyll and Hyde…. Together Again.

I hesitate to further derail this thread, but I do have a specific question for Mr. Harris regarding the Movietone ratio. While I understand the US adopted Academy 1.37:1 circa 1932, did Germany continue to use 1.19:1 for several years after that? The reason I ask is that Triumph of the Will (1935) is Movietone, and Kino has put out a few German titles in 1.19:1 post 1932, like Victor and Victoria (1933), Douglas Sirk's The Girl from the Marsh Croft (1935) and The Final Chord (1936).

Personally I really like seeing films in this ratio when appropriate. I wouldn't mind if Universal would see fit to open up the ratios to full height on All Quiet on the Western Front, Frankenstein, and Dracula, which technically should all be Movietone.

Yes, 1.19 continued for several years overseas. The fine grain used for Triumph was 1.19.

I remember watching a documentary on the Wilde novel and they made quite a point of insisting that the correct pronunciation was JEEKel

A wild novella, perhaps, but never a Wilde novel. ;)

Interesting, too, that in the story, "Jekyll transformed into the smaller, younger, cruel, remorseless, and evil Hyde." Most modern adaptations have the Hyde transformation as a much larger and monstrous being (especially those using CG).

Point taken. I need to stop watching so much TCM! I think I’ve seen “Portrait” four times in the past month so I have a Wilde brain!

A contact is in contact with Fredric March's grandchildren and is passing this to them
I also told them aboiut the restoration of this film!

Bob,

We were, indeed, all gratified by the great job TCM did throughout the September 30 125th-birthday celebration. None of the March family lives in the Northeast anymore — they are spread around the globe — but they’re happily finding out these days just how many Fredric March fans are out there, and I will pass along to them your good wishes.

All best,

George
