The film is offensive simply because of its title 'Porgy and Bess.'

The actual title is 'The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess.'

Dubose Heyward was dumped in the Hudson with the other garbage.

Day One for me. Now, Goldwyn and, for that matter, Gershwin Estates get over yourselves, find the funding, dare the public to get their delicate sensibilities bruised...and give us "Porgy and Bess."

I saw the surviving 70mm print many years ago. Trust me, as bad as it's reputed to be, it's actually even worse. Most of the time, it's filmed like the camera was in the eighth row of a theatre. The only time it comes to life (and the camera breaks free) is when Sammy sings "It Ain't Necessarily So." It should be restored and premiered on TCM, so everyone can watch it once and be grateful they didn't waste $30 buying it on disc.

I found Dodsworth in my mailbox yesterday, and gave it a quick spin and watched a few sections (more than I meant to, as this is such a great film).
I agree with RAH, this looks great.
I prescribe a good stout for those who watch this to quiet the nerves.
