I'd not heard of Chuck, which is a passion project of Liev Schreiber's, directed by Philippe Falardeau.
The film was produced on a tiny budget, which probably would not have been possible without the involvement of Avi Lerner, and his studio in Bulgaria.
It's one of those films that's more of the sum of its parts.
Chuck Wepner was the basis for Rocky, which was another boxing film, made some time in the 1970s. It reminds me in certain ways of the UK kitchen sink cinema.
Mr. Schreiber, Elisabeth Moss, Ron Perlman, and Naomi Watts, give it an authentic 70s feel, along with more Cadillacs that have ever been seen in the same film.
Shot digitally, and completed as a 2k DI, everything works perfectly on Paramount's Blu, which is worth your investment of time.
The film opened at the Tribeca Fest in April.
