Disney and Pixar's Brave in a far better than average Disney product. Whether it will ever reach "classic" status will remain to be seen.
What it is, is a beautifully crafted 3D tale, a bit reminiscent of Braveheart, except without Mel Gibson, and other live actors, and with a girl in the lead. As digitally rendered by Pixar, Brave is yet another big step forward in animation art. The rendering of Merida's hair alone is astonishing.
As to the 3D, the work on Brave is front and center, with layers of landscapes all hones to perfection. Colors are beautifully rendered, and even when viewed through glasses, there is enough light to make everything work.
While I'll not get into the story line, suffice to say that it's appropriate for older children as well as adults.
Final point. This is a film, where if you're set up for 3D, you'll want the larger multi-disc set, as the dimensionality does bring the film to another level -- no pun intended. For some films, it really doesn't matter. For Brave, it does.
An extremely beautiful and entertaining Blu-ray. An hour and a half well spent. And if one has more time, there are tons of extras.
Recommended.
