David O. Russell's Amsterdam is an enigma wrapped inside an original screenplay for Howard Hawk's The Big Sleep - but without Bogart, Bacall or Martha Vickers.
While all of the bits and pieces do finally kind of come together - and the political intrigue involving characters we meet in a 15 year-old flashback does more or less iron itself out, the film is a long 134 minutes.
That noted, it looks great in projection in 4k, as it matches the source material.
It's my second Margot Robbie film in a week, and she's very different in both. It's beginning to appear that she may be one of the top of her generation.
As to other cast, aside from Christian Bale, I believe that ever working member of SAG is involved in the production.
For those who appreciate Mr. Russell's work, and I'm in that fold, it's a rental - if you're trying to kill two hours.
It's definitely an odd one.
Image - 5 (HDR)
Audio – 5 (Dolby Atmos)
Pass / Fail – Pass
Plays nicely with projectors - Yes
Makes use of and works well in 4k - 4
