In an effort to handle review in some sort of order, we come to Alias Nick Beal, a 1949 noir directed by John Farrow.
Interesting as a noir fantasy, it follows a politician on his rise with the help of a certain Mr. Beal, beautifully played by Ray Milland. And it's a quality production
The Paramount nitrates held by Universal are at least generally a bit short on quality elements, and this one falls into the norm, but comes away reasonably unscathed.
Nice grain, rich, thick blacks, and decent shadow detail deliver a quality image, if not a bit on the dirty side. Not necessarily a bad thing, as it looks like a print from the era.
Music by Franz Waxman.
An important release from Kino.

Pass / Fail – Pass
