A quick caveat that the disc which shows up for $14 on Amazon is from a vendor named Yourtreasuerhunter. Direct from Kino price is $24, and UHD sold by Amazon is $21 - more in line with Kino price.

I have no experience with Yourtreasurehunter (if anyone does, please chime in) but one needs to be cautious regarding third part sellers on Amazon. This price seems too good to be true. Perhaps it is.

Again I have no knowledge about this vendor. They may be perfectly respectable.

The price on Amazon for both of these 4K UHD releases is showing as $27.99 USD for me, not $21. Are you sure you're looking at the right item?

Even without HDR, the UHD will have better color, being 10-bit vs. 8-bit for Blu-ray, and the color resolution is 4-times that of Blu-ray, as well.

Unfortunately, most of the time SDR content on 4k Blu-ray is in the Rec 709 gamut, even though the specs allow for P3 or greater gamuts with SDR source material (just like the specs allow for whole frame encoding, when they so often use partial frame encoding like in the past). So far the SDR 4k content from Kino is in the more limited Rec 709 space. It could very well be the less refined source masters they were given.

After a number of one-shot TV appearances in the late 1950s and early '60s...

... The Good... arrived last April, and is now available on Amazon for $13.62 (+ shipping).

...
Sorry, I should have specified. I was referring to Good, Bad.

Thanks for catching this.

What is your problem with Rec 709?

I ordered from them this week, as they had the 3 new W. C. Fields releases for 10-11 bucks each (but, shipping isn't free). Got here within days and are genuine. So, a thumbs up from me!

color-gamut-8

It's an old and outdated gamut. Why not put out the best product possible? Why settle?

I have the accompanying Blu-ray from the GB&U 4K UHD set and it's the best it has ever looked. Online reviews also mention that laserdisc audio was used for this release, after years of complaints online, and it's the best it has ever sounded too. I have less interest in the Dollars movies but it's good to know Kino has done them justice.

I seem to recall the UHD BD spec required 4K SDR to be rec 709 and HDR to be BT2020. Maybe I mistaken though.

The first 2 films was Leone's Love Letters to Kurosawa's "Yojimbo and Sanjiro". I love to see the differences and the samness in the way they tell the same story. One in Japan and the other in the West. Both very applicable and organic in their telling.
I love these films and I'm so glad that there are now decent formats being produced to view and enjoy. Thanks RAH for the review, I can tell you love these films as well.
I hope this means a 4K remastered edition of "Once Upon a Time in the West"

Got 4K Touch of Evil from Your_treasurehunter for $16.25 + shipping, ordered on 5/16 and it arrived on 5/19. I was suspicious as well, as I've heard tales of bad actors ripping off retailers and selling their wares on amazon for major discounts. In this case, their merchant page seems to almost exclusively be made up of Kino-affiliated labels (735 products listed). Lots of good prices, so hopefully they're on the up-and-up: https://www.amazon.com/s?i=merchant-items&me=AJXWTYZ9LKL6T
