John Andeas Andersen's The Quake has many things in common with Roar Uthaug's, The Wave.
Both are from Norwegian filmmakers, and both are far more elegant versions of Irwin Allen's 1960s-'70s brand of huge, heavily cast, disaster thrillers.
The main difference being, that the Norwegian counterparts are easy on star power, have very high-end effects, and both tell very personal stories, affected by the events surrounding them.
The Quake, released here by Magnolia, is a gorgeous Blu-ray, that could easily be uprezzed to 4k, but why bother?
In the mood for an intelligent disaster film?
The Quake will probably fill the bill.
