John Brahm's The Lodger, like his Undying Monster, also available via Kino Lorber on Blu-ray, is an atmospheric piece.

This unofficial remake of the 1929 Hitchcock production, works on all levels, most notably via the cinematography of Lucien Ballard, which is nicely reproduced on the new Kino release.

Albeit, from a dupe, there's still enough meat here to create a very pleasing image, short of a damaged section about an hour in, which has scratches on the fine grain. They go by quickly, and don't create any real problems.

Could they be removed? Probably, with an attached cost.

Laird Cregar, who has a short, odd career at Fox stars as the suspected Ripper.

Sara Allgood, who was in the 1929 version appears.

    Definitely worth your time.
