Goldeneye looked fine to me when I watched it a few weeks ago.FoxyMulder said:You'll surely take a much improved transfer of Goldeneye if they offer it.
The only issues I have with the latest versions are the 5.1 mix on OHMSS which mixes the music and effects differently to the correct mono mix.
The surround mixes are usually the ones I prefer.
The added sounds on the YOLT surround mix really irk me as does the new meow from the cat on DAF.
The messed up colours on the Thunderball UE dvd were grating . Mainly when the thug is thrown into the sharkpool and his blood turns the water a colour that is not red - thankfully corrected for the Blu.
These errors stand out for me. I don't nitpick whether ratios are spot on or for other slight imperfections that might pass me by.
I just watch and listen to the movies .
I'm generally satisfied with the Bond boxset . I doubt any changes to Goldeneye would make me buy it again individually although I expect there may be another excuse to buy the whole set again in the future.
YOLT with the surround track removed of all new effects and OHMSS surround redone would likely be the only 2 I would buy on their own- however , being able to recognise these inaccuracies tells me I've probably watched these films more than enough times already.
To be frank , Goldeneye is the last of the films I would call classic Bond . Everything after that seems to be competing with modern action films.
The Craig movies are entertaining in their own right but as Bond films they are dreadful - QoS was appalling and Skyfall didn't offer anything that 1001 other action movies of the past 15 years hasn't already done .
Bond once lead - now he follows. Even when incorporating elements from other genres there was a time when a Bond movie was a unique film experience .
Goldeneye was the last time I could say that about a 007 movie.
One could say that technology has caught up and now allows 007 scale adventures to be made on budgets that any studio will support but there also seems to be a loss of creativity.
I understand Skyfall is the biggest Bond grosser ever . But I wonder where it will stand in the table of Bond classics in 20 years.
