"Check his vitals, and get the the boy some lip gloss."
Alex Lawther, who some may recognize from The Imitation Game and Goodbye Christopher Robin, plays a self-proclaimed "freak," viewed by his ultra-conservative, religious classmates, as queer.
He does nothing to alter their opinion.
That information really tells the viewer nothing about the film, or the experience of viewing it, as with no precognitions going in, I found it both entertaining, and a difficult and interesting tale of a teen, not in full identity crisis, as he seems to understand perfecting who his, but rather, trying to understand how he might fit in with the rest of his class.
With nice support from Abigail Breslin, Annasophia Robb, Laverne Cox and Bette Midler, Trudie Styler's Freak Show is a treat, and a Shout Factory release worthy of your support.
