As Ken Russell films go, his 1988 The Lair of the White Worm, which was released by Vestron, and is now a part of the new Lionsgate Collector's series, falls somewhere south of mid-point.
It's a fun horror film, firmly in the Russell tradition, and is low-budget enough to have gotten made.
The film stars the then reasonably newly minted Amanda Donohoe, and in a supporting role, a young Hugh Grant.
Lair is probably a film for Russell completists, and those who are, will be quite happy with Lionsgate's new Blu-ray. While it's not quite up to 2010 standards, it will do in a pinch.
It was shot by Dick Bush, who was also behind the camera for several of Mr. Russell's other films, in addition to productions such as Sorcerer and Victor Victoria.
What's very special about this release, is the plethora of extras that Lionsgate has added. So if it's Lair and Russell that you want to study, this disc is for you.
