Some people tend to confuse Born Free with Lawrence of Arabia.

They're both Columbia pictures, and have strangely similar scores.

One has camels and horses, the other lions.

It's a wonderful film, directed by James Hill, told in semi-documentary style, about the adoption of lion cubs, with one being the center of the tale.

Another beautiful Blu-ray from Columbia.

Nary a problem to be found here.

El Aurens vs El Sa - no wonder people confuse the two films

If you're looking to bathe in a cathartic fountain of your own warm tears, look no further than Born Free. Seriously awesome 50 years on.

We just viewed this about 3 times now, myself and Kyrs twice, Kyrsten's mom once (finally getting her to use the blu-ray player we got for her a couple Christmases ago. Color me impressed and glad this one is in my Blu-ray library.

Couldn't help but wonder though if this film had any influence on the creator's of Disney's The Lion King (1994), (please, no discussion about the Disney/LK creativity controversies. That's a topic for another forum).

There's also To Walk with Lions, with Richard Harris and Honor Blackman.

"Born Free" must have been sung in every elementary school for years. I certainly recall that!

I'm so glad I just saw this on the main index. Next to The Bishop's Wife, this is my favorite movie and I've snuck it into several wishlist threads here through the years about what movies deserve this treatment.

Somehow though, it slipped through the cracks and I'm just now learning about this release. Thanks for making my morning.

:) (I was tempted to put about a dozen more smiley faces in a row, but I'll spare everyone reading this thread).

Am I too late to buy? I don't see it on Amazon, just something called Elsa's Legacy: The Born Free Story. And the Blu-Ray.com review says it's foolishly limited to 3,000 copies.

My dream release happens, and it looks like I missed it. :(

Edit: While an Amazon search doesn't bring it up, going through the Amazon link at the Blu-Ray.com review does. And I if I had just finished Richard's review, I see I can buy it direct from Twilight Time as well. In my excitement though, I immediately went looking for screenshots.

Guess I'll have to go through the pre-90's catalog thread soon and see if I've missed anything else. I hate this limited production run nonsense.

Since You Went Away didn't happen to sneak by me recently, did it? That's the next holy grail on my wishlist.

Hello Leo. I'm sure others will chime in, but just go to www.twilighttimemovies.com & you will still find copies of BORN FREE.

That's because Peter O' Toole has portrayed both a Lawrence AND a Lion;

with the latter also having a score by John Barry. :lol:

Hey - not only is the transfer stupendous, but the commentary track with Jon Burlingame, Julie Kirgo and Nick Redman is outstanding! This arrived with The Last Detail and Sense and Sensibility, which are also stellar transfers. Cheers Twilight Time!

In listening to Ms. Kirgo's commentary on how the real Elsa died, I couldn't help but capture it;
but there's actually another sequel, here: Tick-Borne Free.
Please forgive.:eek:
P.S. This is an altogether excellent disc. It's message and lessons remain universal.
