A few different Dayton woofers (1 Viewer)

I'm considering doing a killer front-stage for my vehicle, and i figured you guys on the home theater forum would know more about the specific woofers i'm looking at to toss into my doors. I've always loved the idea of running products that hardly anyone I see in person knows of or has even heard of, and then proceed to amaze them at how great it sounds. I've been running a couple 15" titanic's in my jeep for several months, and i love everything about them, so i'm expecting the same kind of results from the smaller brother(s).

i'm going to be running two component sets- CDT HD-62 and a CDT HD-42. the complete HD-42 set which consists of a 1" tweet and a 4" mid will be put into kick panels, and the HD-62 set which consists of a 6 1/2" mid and a 1" tweet, will be split up, the mid in a fiberglass pod built onto the door, and the tweet in the dash.

For amps, i'm going to be running a US Amps 400x to the hd-42 set, and a US Amps 600x to the hd-62 set. power for the new woofers i'm considering is still undecided, but i'll try and find something by us amps to power them correctly, just so i dont have one odd-ball amp.

Now, onto the woofers. I'm looking at partsexpress.com and i see a few different mids that would/could possibly work. i dont know the difference between any of them, or the sound they produce. So i'm wondering which would be the best for my application. I want to high pass the amplifier for them at about 70 hz, then set a crossover to cut them off at about ~300 hz.

I want something thats going to sound musical, and really liven up my midbass. All 4 of the woofers i linked to can easily handle the frequencies i'm wanting to play, and the power they want can easily be dealt with.

Sorry if the whole car thing isnt what you guys are used to dealing with, i just figured you guys would know the prodcuts i'm looking at better than the boys on a car audio fourm

Just not sure what to tell you. Out of your links, I'd go with the most expensive out of those for sure.

I tend to like 10" subs in cars better than 8" subs, but have had really great experiences with both in general.

i frequent the sounddomain forum, constanatly when i'm online. i'll re-post this in the DIY section and see if I get some love. As for the subwoofer comment, i'm not intending to use these as my main sub, just for midbass. I'd have a dedicated 12" subwoofer to go along with it, I just forgot to mention it.

I wouldn't use a paper cone. I'd use one that was treated paper or some other material, so the first one you listed would be out in my book. IMO, 8" is perfect for midbass in auto applications (I consider it a midrange too , former car audio guy here too)

What are you going to use for a x-over? Passive or electronic?

not sure on what i'd do for the crossover situation. both component sets i'd be running come with crossovers, so i'd use them for the comp sets, but with the mids, i'm kind of confused as to how to do it. i'll be able to set the high pass on the amplifier to filter out the low frequencies, but then i dont want them playing any higher than ~300 hz, so i'd need some type of external x-over. i'm sure if i searched around i could find a crossover thats meant for this type of appliciation, like something that has two seperate power inputs (left and right channels) and then one output for each.

Well, to get that blend, passive is the least expensive way, but then't you'll have to figure out from a book or someone who knows, what components to use to filter the 8" correctly on the upper end. Or, you could use a 2-way electronic x-over to blend the 8" to the separates.

I'd personally go with the 8" Quatro. It's a 4 ohm driver and will be a better match to car audio amps. Considering you're talking 8's for midbass I'd at least try a 60Hz XO point. They should be able to handle it and I've always found that when using a subwoofer mounted in the rear of the vehicle that I got a much blend to the sub with a 60Hz XO. Of course, with 6.5" mids I missed a lot of midbass and ended up going back to 80Hz for the added punch. But if I had 8's I'd sure be tempted to try 60Hz.

as for the second one being 4 ohms, thats not a big issue. if i have two 8 ohm subs i'll just run a mono amp at 4 ohms.

i'm just wondering now which sounds better. the specs are similar, as is price. the quattro however is looking better. it requires less power and has more xmax, while the series II takes more power and has less xmax.

i've also posted this in the DIY section to see if anyone can give me some help.
