Since I joined HTF, I've never ceased to be amazed how many people love this movie. Before that, I really thought I was one of only a few. Happy to be wrong in this case.
Anyway, since it is only available in a non-OAR DVD with poor video quality to boot, many of us won't buy it. It's time this title got a better treatment on DVD.
Warner Brothers holds the rights and they have listened to our demands before (remember Willy Wonka), so I think it's worth trying again.
    Let's make this happen. [IMG]
    Thanks for your support.
EDIT: I actually started a new petition, but it appears there is an existing one here, so I suggest we carry on with that one.

One of my all time favorite movies!! I think this movie will be known as an all time classic. This needs a OAR SE release. Get Peter Peter Billingsley to do a commentary!

    Petition signed.

Ooops, it appears that I committed a faux pas.

When did that other petition start...I don't recall seeing it. Maybe it wasn't promoted on HTF...I don't recognize any of the names on it.

I'd definitely buy an OAR release of this classic!

I suggest we forget the petition I started and continue on with the existing one and give it a little promotion here at HTF. There's not much point in having two separate ones.

    #645..

"Have never seen this film, but will definitely buy it if available in Original Aspect Ratio. Widely lauded as a classic, yet I will *refuse* to buy Modified Aspect Ratio films. Very simple, it comes down to whether you want my money or not."

#646: "I bought the current version a couple years ago as a gift for someone else. I will buy it again, for myself and for others, if re-released in OAR. Thank you."

#653 - Caught this in the theater with my brother and his wife. We laughed our asses off. When we walked out of the theater it was snowing [IMG] . One of my best ever movie going experiences.

My wife and I love this movie. I'm sure my kids would too, but I won't buy the cropped & chopped version.

A Christmas Story is not really "cropped and chopped," as it was an open matte film. However, I signed the petition for a widescreen, anamorphic version.

To be technical, Turner Entertainment Co. will handle this DVD...I think WHV has said that the Turner module handles all the films in their library. This movie happens to be the only one released by Turner not in the correct widescreen ratio. Given WB's usual high quality transfers, I anticipate a new 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer...perhaps with a filmmakers commentary.

    Great movie!

I must say I expected a bigger response to this.... [IMG]
Oh well, I suppose it was worth a try.
