I can promise you that the new system works far better for music (stereo and 5.1) as well as audio-visual stuff. Tilting the speakers upwards has no effect, by the way. Oh, and no, I'm not simply trying to gratify my wife (I have more effective methods of doing that 
).
The reason for starting the thread was simply to note that what the textbooks say won't necessarily apply in individual cases. I seriously doubt whether our new set-up would work in 99% of other rooms.
