I watched this tonight. The transfer isn't as wonderful as one might have wished though for the most part it's well above average. It marks a splendid film debut for Katharine Hepburn, and Billie Burke is very strong in it, too. Barrymore has a field day with his juicy part. Top flight melodrama. I hadn't seen it in decades, and I didn't remember it ending that way, so in some ways it was like seeing it for the first time.
I had wanted to see this movie for years - ever since reading Hepburn’s autobiography - but it had never been easily available. I was really happy to finally have that chance with this release. I agree that the transfer isn’t perfect but is above average. I’m satisfied with the release - it was great to finally see it!
Does anybody know if this version contains the original RKO logo in front of the main titles? After Selznick bought this property from RKO the logo had been plastered with the Selznick logo, at least for re-release through his own releasing company.
Just watched last night. Excellent transfer and, as Matt noted, it was nice to see the RKO logo at the start. Interesting to see that they misspelled Hepburn’s name on the closing cast list. I’m sure they heard about it at the time from Kate.
