Although I'd probably buy them, they're probably redundant in my case. I found a WHOLE bunch of VHS tapes I recorded in the mid to late 80's. One DVD burner laterm, and TADA! Three hours of pure 80's goodness.

I guess it would be against forum rules to sell my homemade DVDs, wouldnt it. [IMG]

    What? No Transformers?

    - The only problem I can see with this is the liscencing headache. See, Madacy can get away with it for it's Classic Commercials 2-pack because they're all from the 50's thru the 70's. They've all fallen into the public domain.

Stuff from the 80's? That's probably too new for that to happen. I imagine that Kenner will go nuts with the lawers if someone tried to pull that.

    Transformers is up there...

I also agree that there would be way too many royalties to pay, but honestly, how much would these commercials be worth to their licensing corporation today? I just don't see what value 20 year old toy commercials or restaurant / food advertisements would hold today... other than their commercial viability through a medium as such that would be able to offer them to the public for nothing more than the nostalgia factor associated. It's not like these could or would be used again in today's corporate market. I would just hate to see these forgotten and neglected, only to be issued 50 years down the line once they've fallen into the public domain themselves and the prints are deteriorated and second rate. I personally think there'd be a significant profit to be made in this venture, it'd just be an issue of sorting and paying royalties, etc. I'll keep my fingers crossed though...

Marco, you really brought back some great memories. The sad thing is if a collection like that ever came out, it would probably only include a fraction of those commercials.[IMG]

So I know it's not the same thing as a DVD of these clasic greats, but there's quite a bit of 80's TV goodness over on
X-Entertainment. Some of them are pretty crappy quality, but they're all pretty memorable.
