Looks like its time to consider overhead channels!
    Check this: http://www.smartdev.com/overhead.html
Look like upgrading my 7.1 to 9.1 might be my first HT project for the new year. [IMG]

Thats overkill for me. I guess for a very big room it could work. Im happy with my 7.1 setup.

I agree. 7.1 will do just fine for now.

Maybe in a room the a size of an auditorium, but in my room, since my surrounds are mounted 4 feet above me while sitting, it sounds like it's behind and above. So what's the point?

    I doubt I'll do that.

    Phil,

Please remember that quality is more important than quantity. I believe that $2,000 worth of 5.1 will "sound better" than $2,000 worth of 7.1 (or 9.1). It will also usually give a better HT experience.

    What happened to 5.1???
5.1 should be enough for anyone! [IMG]
Seriously, we need to pick a standard and then stick with it! 5.1 is still the standard for HDTV, thank goodness. I don't see them moving to 6.1 or anything like that.

Oh I would not deviate from quality, I would use another set of the same surround speakers I already have and a high quality 2 channel amp to go with them.

I just think it would be cool it would give you a more of an immersive feel when watching movies. Say for instance in the movie U-571 when the depth charges were going off from above that the sound could come from the overhead channel and be realistic sounding.

I am just in the thinking about stage anyway,
need to do a lot more research before jumping in.
