I just posted the Coke Time Special 1960 in the Obscure TV series thread.
Kookie on Coke Time

It has Edd Byrnes at his Kookiest
Thanks for posting that. Even though Edd Byrnes was the only link to our conversation, it was a thoroughly enjoyable hour. Didn't Bobby Darin just ooze talent? And, it was fun to hear the musical selections - mostly tunes from the movies. No comment about Anita Bryant. :)

"The Fumble" (S6E12)

Stu Bailey begins to recount his latest case to long-suffering but ever so delectable secretary Hanna (Joan Staley). She sits down with her notepad to listen.
"Are you comfortable?" implores Stu.
"Not as much as if I was in a casino in front of a t-bone steak." she retorts.
For the most part, I stayed away from season 6 due to its complete change of format which seemed to me to crumble the whole enterprise. However, intriguingly this episode featured Richard Long as a guest star, who had in season 3 meshed into a partner of Bailey & Spencer as Rex Randolph. So it was worth a look-see.

Charlie (Richard Long) is a functioning alcoholic business exec who turns into the town drunk after a few pops and babbles about his past as a football star. Charlie's wife Diana (Gail Kobe) hires old friend Stu to be Charlie's watchdog in a desperate attempt to keep him on the straight and narrow at an upcoming convention. Diana is also the daughter of the company's CEO--so you might assume she has Charlie by the short and curlies. Charlie, of course, becomes even more belligerent at Stu's intrusion as a baby sitter.

Haven't we met somewhere before? An appropriate distraction; an alcohol-cleansing sauna

Charlie's in charge of organizing the company's convention event--which fortunately for us includes enlisting a bevy of models--not the least of whom is bubbly and highly jiggly Sue Ane Langdon. While Stu's task is to keep alcohol as far away from Charlie as ketchup to a banana pudding, Jana (Sue Ane) easily distracts Stu with her honey-dipped southern drawl and legs so shapely as to make one reflect on their enchanting juncture. As a result of Stu's neglect, Charlie wakes up from a night long binge in a crummy Mexican hotel, only to find a dead girl in his bed. The housekeeping crew will not be amused.

Stu's in a pickle to find out what happened since Charlie's recollection is about as clear as muenster cheese. The world has turned upside down for him--his employment is in jeopardy, the police are after him, his wife is just beside herself, and the price of ground beef has risen to 49c a pound. So here it is in a nutshell--Charlie's being framed by one of his colleagues in order to get his job.

The Moral: 3 martini business lunches are the backbone of U.S. economy, as well as rehab facilities.

Edit Note:
I thought I had actually found an episode on which I've never commented, only to just discover that I wrote about this one some time ago. Duh.
Well, I'm posting it anyway.

Just trying to keep the thread alive Rob. :)
Hope you are feeling well.
Thanks, Marv. I'm about 90% recovered from my mishap of a year ago, but even getting to that evaluation has taken a lot of effort. The remaining 10% is going to take a while and some work. There is still a lot of brain injury yet to heal, as indicated by an MRI. As a practical matter I am 100%, but I still sleep about as much as a cat.

Hello to all of you faithful 77 Sunset Strip fanatics. Marv suggested I post this over here as many of you might like to see scenes of 1960's Los Angeles.

America! ‘The Tinsel Mecca’ (1963) (Unaired Pilot)

Here's another program that might be of interest to some of you. Great banter between the stars of the 60's! I loved every single moment of this one.

(Jan.21.1994) Stars Vicki Lawrence Efrem Zimbalist Jr. Edd Byrnes Martin Milner George Maharis Johnny Crawford

Hey Neal - I think it was the complete episode that had the outdoor shots of LA.

"They'll Be Some Changes Made" (S4E3)

Cricket returns home after--what I'd like to imagine---a night of after hours lap dancing at the Shell Bar for some of the heavy spenders, only to find Phil (Troy Donahue) lurking in her bushes hoping for a late night booty call. As the firm's new guy, he hasn't yet learned that Cricket is off limits to the partners. Besides, Cricket's busy taking care of a friend's baby under somewhat suspicious circumstances. Phil has to settle for diaper changing rather than thong removal.

Luana (Tita Marsell), the baby's mother, is trying to keep the kid from being taken away by it's grandfather (Harry Holcombe). Unfortunately for him, his close confident Allen (Warren Stevens) has designs to kidnap the baby for ransom. The baby's father--Gramp's son and Luana's husband--has been killed in an auto accident, so she's on her own and paranoid that Gramps wants his only grandchild for himself as his only heir. Ya follow so far?

As Magnum is not yet available, Tom Lopaka (Robert Conrad) is hired by Gramps to find mother and child. Phil, having been sworn by Cricket to keep the baby secret, has no idea of the background story. And for good reason, since he graduated last in his class at Muncie Community College and has little knowledge of anything. Tom pays an unexpected visit to Cricket's apartment to see if she's heard from Luana, causing her to quickly dispense of poopy diapers and stray pacifiers before he catches sight. Tom is suspicious anyway after finding Phil's sweater and Cricket's twittery nervousness.

Luana in her Sunday best; Cricket wayyy after hours: Phil and his chick magnet uke

Carl is busy trying to ingratiate himself to Gramps and Tom in hopes of finding the baby first. Following clues like a good detective, Tom finds Luana hanging out with her uncle--but no amount of persuasion will get her to reveal the kid's whereabouts. Meanwhile, under Cricket's instructions, Cricket sends Phil to pick up some mashed turnips, applesauce, a quart of Stoli's and two steamship tickets that Luana intends to use for her and the baby to escape to the mainland. Still following?

This transaction is observed by Carl as well as Tom. In short order, Phil finds out his role in the caper and feels like a first class stooge for being duped. While Luana spills her guts to them, Cricket's in the Shell Bar crooning "Oh, But I Do", leaving us to suppose that she's left the baby alone attached to her automatic cat feeder. It's up to Tom and Phil to obstruct Carl's attempt to kidnap the baby, which is rapidly solved by a fist fight and Tom's snub nose .38. So what have we learned?
--Phil can change a diaper
--Phil is easily fooled
--Phil sucks as a detective
--Phil never gets to nail Cricket.

I now put to rest this exhaustive narrative.

Yes, Hello Rob! Hope you are doing well.

Russ, don't blame yourself for the quiet here. It's a shared interest and joint responsibility in keeping this discussion alive...I too could be doing more.

In the meantime, here's a nice publicity photo for the season five premiere episode, The Reluctant Spy (Oct. 12, 1962)...one of Russ' dreaded 'foreign' episodes...Efrem with Oscar Beregi...

I enjoyed the tongue-in-cheek review, but still couldn't warm up to the Donahue episodes. Why was he there? Am I the only one to think that his presence messed up the whole composite cast structure? Cricket would never have kept her reluctant involvement in a mystery from Tom. She'd have wanted his help solving it, not just keep calling in sick until it resolved on its own. I nearly choked on all that contrived"cuteness".
