As I go to chose a HD ready 16:9 set, with the choices being Hitachi 43UWX10B, Tosh 42H81, Mits WT-46809 I noticied that the Hitachi lists 720P(1080i/720p/480p/480i) as an acceptable input, the Mits lists (480i/480p/1080i) but does not mention 720P and Tosh does not say anything on its web site. I understand the ABC is broadcasting in 720P.
Should I be concerned?

A lot (certainly not all) of videophiles prefer 720p to 1080i. I've never seen native 720p myself.
The great majority of HD receivers convert 720p to 1080i, anyway.
If you don't have your heart set on 720p specifically, it's probably not a big deal. I'm still ticked at ABC over HD MNF being dropped, but I've seen some of their 720p broadcasts converted by my RCA DTC-100 to 1080i, and they look fine.

I could be wrong but the way things seem to be going 720p is dying a slow death...1080i is alive and well. I don't know why that is, but 480p looks good to me

Hitachi lists 720p as acceptable but still converts it to 1080i. Since all STBs convert 720p to 1080i as well this should not be a consideration. I previously purchased a Panasonic set which displays 720p natively, but returned it for a variety of reasons.
I think 720p will go the way of Betamax.

720p Should I be concerned

Not if you buy only for today. Today, the most popular
digital video broadcast is in 480p. Today, the most
popular digital video medium for home theater storage
is DVD, also at 480p. Compared to 480p, 1080i is not
used all that much. And 720p is used even less.
But I would imagine that in the future, 1080i will be
more popular than it is today and that 720p will be
much more popular than it is today.
