On the Canadian site of Sony they say the following about the Sony KV-34XBR800:`"HD Component input is capable of receiving 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i signals" but on the U.S. website they don't mention any 720p display compatibility. They only mention iton the KD-34XBR2.

So can the 34xbr800 display a 720p or not? If yes, does it display it in its native signal or does it convert it to a 1080i signal.

Also, if a channel is broadcasting in 720p and you have a television that is only compatible with a 1080i signal, will it able to somehow display the broadcast or are you just screwed and have to live with it?

The XBR800 series, including the 34XBR800 internally converts 720p to 1080i.

On the second question, I believe you would be screwed. However, just about every HDTV and every HD set-top box I have ever seen has the ability to convert the different ATSC formats to other ATSC formats that your HDTV will support, so you shouldn't ever be *really* screwed.

The KV-34 is an integrated HDTV, I believe—meaning it has an internal ATSC tuner. You will be able to receive 720p broadcasts, but the Sony will convert them to 1080i.
