Dunno if this has ever been asked before but a quick search didn't turn anything up. I have an awesome 7.1 setup that I'm putting together, it's getting near finished (built the room, got the receiver, DVD player, wires, cables, all 7 speakers are mounted now...just need the sub yet)

But I noticed that when going through my DVD collection there weren't any specifically 7.1 mastered DVDs on my shelf. Now of course I have plenty of settings to utilize all 7 speakers on 5.1 and 6.1 DVDs...but I was just wondering if there were any good movies released on DVD that were specifically mastered in 7.1 that I could pick up to really see what my speakers can do and how the whole thing sounds.

And if there aren't any specific 7.1s, what are some good movies that will get full use of the set up...mostly talking good surround at this point, I'll get into some bass scenes once my SVS is hooked up.

So anyone who has a favorite DVD for sound lemme know so I can pick it up!

There aren't any 7.1-channel DVDs as the maximum number of channels on DVD is seven (6.1) from DTS-ES Discrete 6.1.

7.1-channel systems use DSP effects to create an extra channel: usually an extra rear channel based on the centre-back channel of a 6.1 DTS-ES or 5.1EX/ES soundtrack. HD-DVD and Blu-ray will allow for true 7.1-channel soundtracks in the future, but not DVD.

7.1 doesn't exist on DVD. The best you'll get is 6.1, as mentioned above. The 2 back speakers both have the same sound coming out of them.

As for a list, I don't think that one exists, and once in a while, I will find a new one, but if you have any of these, it should show up.

    Addicted to Love
    Air Force One
    Fifth Element
    Men in Black
    Starship Troopers
    Godzilla (US version)
    Terminator 3

In any event, when you get your HD player, make sure that it allows for 7.1 analogue out.

Actually there is a thread that covers DD EX and DTS ES titles. I just don't remember the name of the thread, but it has DD EX & DTS ES in it IIRC.

Don't forget Gladiator (DTS ES) and Top Gun (DTS ES) two of my favs

It's here. His list includes 53 DVDs with the DTS discrete back channel (true 6.1)

Do not let the lack of EX and 6.1 releases get you down. Most all 5.1 movies with Prologic IIx engaged will create great 7.1 effects! I have not heard anything from an EX or dts 6.1 release that I have not also heard from a DD or dts 5.1 release (with PL IIx) in the way of Surround action.
