Along with The Battle of Britain DVD, next Tuesday launches two more WWII RAF films: 633 Squadron and Mosquito Squadron. Both are not known to me. Both cover the exploits of light-bomber squadrons equipped with the DeHaviland "Mosquito" speedy balsa-wood bomber. Are these worth a blind purchase?
633 Squadron is the better of the two and has a famous theme by Ron Goodwin (famous to us Brits anyway) which is still used at airshows all the time, and gets a little annoying after its repeated over and over again.
The ending to 633 Squadron may seem a little familiar, it's the ending to Star Wars but on a smaller scale, a squadron of bombers flying thru a canyon trying to hit the precise weakness point to blow up the enemy installation.
Mosquito Squadron and 633 Squadron are basically the same movie (they even have a fair amount of shared footage). The plots are very similar with a few details changed here and there. 633 is in 2.35 16x9 but Mosquito Squadron is 1.66 and is not 16x9 enhanced (thanks MGM!).
