$600-700 to spend, AXIOM or KLIPSCH? (1 Viewer)

My friend is looking to invest some money in a HT. I have Axiom, and I'm totally hooked on them. He doesn't have a lot of money to spend on only speakers, so I figure $600-700. And Axiom is great for the price, is Klipsch any good for that price?? I know Klipsch are good high-end speakers, but what about low to middle end??

So what should he buy??

(I say Axiom)

I haven't heard the Axioms, but I owned the Klipsch Synergy series which sounded fantastic. For a little more the Klipsch Reference are even better (I owned those also), but in his price range the Synergy are very nice.

These speakers have entirely different sounds to them. I would suggest having him go to a store and listen to the klipsch before you make a decision for him. In my opinion (I'm not Klipsch bashing), the Klipsch sound like the singer has their hands clasped around their mouth (horn speaker). You really have to listen to them to understand what I mean. I really don't like that sound, but some people do. Either you love Klipsch or you hate them. I'd second the vote for Axiom but that is just my ears' opinion

Brook,

I think AXIOM would be my choice, but with $600-700 I dont think you can build a 5.1 setup with axiom, the starting point is $869 for the MICRO HOME THEATER.

I think AXIOM is the best option when you have between $1000-$2000 to spend in speakers, but lower than that I think you should consider JBL as your best option.

1) NSP1 with a PB12 $499
2) Four JBL S26 + JBL Scenter + SOMY SA-WM40 = $620

Hope this helps,
Pablo

I own Axioms M3ti's,(bookshelves) the VP100 center, and the Qs2 surrounds. All for around $650 through factory outlet. I think they all sound great!! I didn't buy a sub from Axiom because I heard they weren't the best. I have a DIY Shiva sonotube.

So
Axiom-2
Klipsch-2

Brook,
If your friend decides on Axiom, our shop in Ottawa has the Epic Micro on sale at $799.00 in Canadian dollars plus shipping to the US of $79.00CAN. That should translate to about $562.00 in US dollars.

Brook,
You know everybody loves a nice HT system and now that you already have yours and every thing you need...Next to HT systems friends come next. You should buy your two best friends a nice little gift just to know you care.
I say I'll still stick with the Klipsch unless I don't like them if I would happen to listen to them! Say hi to Sarah for me and Scott! :) ;)

Axiom all the way. Buying them from Marc is priceless as well. His customer service can't be beat.

You would be happier in the long run with Klipsch. I think the Axiom's tend to wear on you over time, and in any HT situation, you are listening at least 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. Klipsch sounds natural and will endure over time better. Just ask how many have had which speaker longer. I have had my Klipsch since 1980 and still love them. The new stuff is even better as they have rounded out the sonic spectrum and really catipulted into a wide audience. One last point to consider - efficiency. With the Klipsch efficiency at 90db and often better, your amps do not need to be pushed and thus, limited distortion and better detail overall. Buy the proven product - buy the Klipsch.

my vote goes to klipsch! if you wait till the new reference bookshelfs come out. the synergies will cost half of what the retail is right now.

I'll agree on the Axiom's wearing on you over time comment. They wear on me to the point that I can't wait for the next movie to start. I guess it's all in the ears of your friend and what sound he likes best. Audition as many brands possible. I'm sure he'll find something that suits him at that price point.
