I am looking for my first HT av receiver for a dedicated room (12x22) I was looking at the OUTLAW 1050... great reviews and price; however, it is only 5.1. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

What's your ideal budget? The Outlaw 1050 does have that limitation, but as you said, it's a great receiver.

BTW, what kind of speakers are you driving?

5560 is not real 6.1 discrete, it has matrix dd and dts for 6th channel and its "DTS-ES compatible", I dont know what the heck it is. onkyo sr600 and pioneer VSX-811s are real 6.1 receivers.

The Outlaw is a 6.1 receiver but it uses a proprietary decoding algorithm. It also lacks DPLII or DTS Neo6.

Other receivers in the same ballpark to consider would be:

Onkyo SR600
Yamaha HTR-5560
Pioneer VSX-D811S
Marantz SR5200

The Denon 2802 as well but it's a little more pricy. It is believed that Denon will be releasing the 1803 in August which will have all the 6.1 goodies and be priced equivalent to the 1802.

good luck,

Right now, I think the Pioneer 811 is the current "wow" receiver.

It offers a ton of great features for the money (around $300-350 online).

I replaced my Outlaw 1050 with the 811, and haven't regretted it for a second.

Search here on HTF for the 811, and you'll find many fans of it.
