dolby digital surround EX just came out (late Nov 01 ?)...if it's that important to you, look for this logo on the receiver:

It's a sure sign of the new technology

I noticed the Denon3802 was made in Japan on the Crutchfield site.

their response was that the 6200 and up (not sure if the 5200 does) are capable of both matrix and discrete
As a former 6200 owner, I can pretty much assure you that it does not do DTS Discrete. Also, in regard to the other reply, yes, the logo will be an indicator that the receiver will decode DD-EX, however, one must note that lack of the "official" blessing from dolby is not and indication that the unit will not decode DD-EX. As I mentioned, the new Yammies will do DD-EX, but since they were released before THH licensed the "EX" trademark to Dolby, they do not bare the "EX" logo, but they can still matrix the rear surround channel from an EX encoded disk (or a non-EX disk as the case is with all matrix decoders.)
