Saw a Radio Shack ad tonight on TV: on sale for $39.99 for Father's Day.

Perfect timing, as my original one stopped working this past weekend. But, for $40, I don't mind considering this "disposable" after a years' service. Well, 6 days short of a year. Not too shabby for the $48 I paid for it, and the service I got out of it. Hopefully the second one will last longer.

I've been reading this thread and I'm wondering if people who bought these players are still satisfied with them. I read some things that said they have a short life span...any truth to that anyone?

How do those who have had this player rate it after having it for a while? It seems from what I read these things don't last very long...

My friend's Cyberhome died recently, and he didn't even use it very much. The "Portland" brand player I got for $35 at Target a few months ago is still working fine though.

Sorry David, I did ask the same question twice. Been sort of tied up with things and forgot that I asked it the first time. My apologies. Thanks for the info though, you too Tony and Jesse.

I've just begun looking into the all region players and I don't know what's good and what's not. For the cost of this player it does seem to be an easy and cheap way into the all region area. What I was hinking though was if they are known to break down in 6 months to a year perhaps it's better to spend a bit more up front and buy a better player.

It looks like you can buy some name brand players for $120 or less that have been set for all region. Just pondering the options.

I didn't see anyone say this, but I think this is the same unit I got at Best Buy for $29 after a $10 rebate. So far it seems to be a nice progressive scan unit, I use it with my computer LCD monitor in a bedroom to play music and DVD's so the computer doesn't have to be on with all its fan noise.

Yes, I picked one up at Best Buy and it was $29.99 after rebate. Good buy...so I couldn't resist.

I bought one of these at Sam's for $40 and it works fine, but I haven't used it much. I also have an Apex 1110W which is hackable, a more solid unit and has a much better remote, but they are hard to find. The 1225 is easier to find but doesn't seem to be hackable.

My brother bought one of these Cyberhome less than a year ago and is already having problems. He's not too happy.

For my region free needs I picked up a Toshiba SD4900 (hard to find now) for under 100 bucks. Yes, it's more than twice the price, but I got a player that not only lasts longer, but is a better machine overall.

I figured that I could spend $30 - $40 per year on a disposable player or pony up some extra money up front and be content for several years. Having said that, if I were a college student or someone who needed a 2nd or 3rd unit, I can see where the CH would be a good choice.

I own both the cyberhome 402 and 300. I have been happy with both of them. both did the proper conversion from PAL to NTSC. Had the 402 for a while. I recently got the 300. It does the progressive. I have noticed a differnce. it even played dvds that would not play on my other dvd player. the newer cyberhome 300 do not play DTS. I want to find one that does.
locally if possible. I am near sacramento.

    thanks.
