This was simply terrible, worse than watching paint dry on the big screen. The film plods and lumbers along with no plot progression of note, and only sprinkles in the abusive kinky side of Christian'srelationship with Anastasia, who doesn't appear to have learned anything from the first movie. The ending is so lame and limp.

I give it 1 star, or a grade of D.

    47 Million.

There's something about that that is essentially offensive to me.

50 Shades is Alvin and the Chipmunks or The Smurfs for a different demo. I have a coworker who has already gone 3 times and watched the first one over 150 times on DVD.

On the recommendation of Howard Stern and thinking that I shouldn't judge a movie without seeing it, I watched the first one a couple weeks ago and it was worse than I thought it would be. I love Howard and I know his tastes are terrible/vastly different from mine but I was still surprised by how bad it was. The nudity is pretty great but the movie is somehow a total devoid of eroticism.

That being said, I have to agree with Hanson and just chalk it up to not being for me.

If you want inane, silly, crotch-grabbing with humor, see Fifty Shades of Black; easily one of the worst/best spoofs of a terrible movie whose premise is a book originally written as Twilight fan fiction. Why either the book or the movies have become so wildly popular with middle-aged women is either a tragic indictment on their taste or lack thereof, or an even more wicked pall cast upon their respective spouses, boyfriends, etc. who clearly aren't fulfilling their requirements in the bedroom.

But I would sincerely like to ask any woman of any age exactly what is so gosh darn appealing about being dominated and humiliated sexually by a guy who is into extreme kink. One would have thought the feminists would have been all over this one. But no. No backlash here. Too busy planning their next anti-Trump rally, I suppose. But let us be fair here and say that if any man of any age approached most women with the 'contract' Christian Grey does to Anastasia, most women would spray him with mace, before kicking him in the crotch and racing for the nearest phone to call the police and report a pervert.

Oh, forgot, Christian's rich. Money - the great cleanser of all sins. Fifty Shades was laughable to say the least, Anastasia enduring butt plugs and nipple clamps - and all the implied kink that goes along with them - but mortally wounded to the point of disgust when Chris won't open up to her at the end about his past and instead gives her a light crack on the cheek with the back of his hand. Really?!?!?!?

I saw the movie under duress; two female friends who encouraged me to get in touch with my feminine side and not judge the book by either its cover or content. I found myself laughing in all the wrong places. There's nothing arousing about this movie - emotionally, sexually, or otherwise. It's 'See Spot Run' writing style for the sexually depraved keeps the audience on a tether with the expectation of seeing low class smut peddled with a big ticket Hollywood price tag. It never happens.

If you want porn - watch porn. If you want a tale of a sexually inexperienced girl broadening her horizons (on a horizontal plain no less) read Lady Chatterley's Lover or Lolita, or The Story of O, or any number of other high profile novels that actually have something to say about sex, sexual encounters (brief or otherwise), the emotional fallout that results, and the heartbreak of a forbidden lust snuffed out in its prime. Fifty Shades of Gray is trash, and not even of the Jackie Collins ilk, which is pretty low to scraping the underside of the bottom of the barrel that's been sunk at the bottom of a scum and puss infested lake used for dumping toxic sewage into the mind. What a waste of time. I would suggest it was a waste of talent too, if only some had been on display.

I saw this Saturday night with my wife for date night. It wasn't the main feature... we did the wine and paint place and dinner first but kind of on a lark went to see this. The problem is the books are rated XXX and the movies are rated R. I think if they made these NC-17 women would have still flocked to see it. Kind of like Deadpool proving you can do a hard R super hero movie and now we've got more on the way (DP2, Logan).

Flocked to where? AMC won't show NC-17 films, and in many places, theaters won't show them due to community standards.

In addition, not all actors are willing to sign up for NC-17 films. Not that Dakota Johnson is a huge name, but it doesn't sound like she enjoys doing the sex scenes in the first place, so doing even more graphic scenes would be out of the question. And if you were a serious enough actor to commit to an NC-17 role, why would you attach yourself to such a hare-brained nonsense?

The demo is coming regardless of ratings. Making it NC-17 would just limit the potential audience.

I'm not saying NC-17 isn't a valid rating for art, but Fifty Shades is commerce, not art.

Hard to argue with a lot of this. We live in a world where porn to satisfy nearly every taste or fetish is just clicks away. I don't know why the books and the movies sell like gangbusters (when the books were selling huge, I was actually annoyed with my wife for having absolutely no interest in them because I thought it was indicative of asexuality, that's how ubiquitous they were. I've come to realize she's just smart)

Bottom line and at the risk of sounding insensitive, but I don't care how outwardly different women often appear to be, many of them are not all that different. I'm sure some of even the most outwardly feminist women fantasize about being dominated by a rich man (why isn't the object of that list ever Bob from Accounting?). There's plenty of evidence. One of the most popular romantic movies of all time is about a streetwalker whisked away by a handsome, rich guy. I guess sometimes they do go with the poor, but worldly and noble handsome guy (like DiCaprio in Titanic) but it always has to be either rich or handsome. In fairness though there are a lot of movies where "plain" girls are deemed unworthy of affection until they doll themselves up.

I do get annoyed that many of the the women that are throwing millions at this film and print franchise lost their minds over dumb comments that a certain very prominent person made in a private conversation.

I might feel differently if these movies were actually good, but this one is at 9% on RT

Since, apparently the 1st movie wasn't a fluke I wonder if they'll now split the last book into two movies.

The second one opened around half of the first one, so there are diminishing returns. In any case, the third film was shot concurrently with the second, so there won't be any more after that.

Gotcha, but it still doesn't necessarily mean they they couldn't split the last book into two movies if they wanted to.
