    Do I have to get the $6500 pioneer to get a good 50"??

    the new panasonic industrials are quite nice and about 4000.

    My friend just bought a 50" Panasonic and it looks outstanding. He paid $4k + he bought the mount and the HDMI board.

    Awesome PQ on it.

    The Pioneers are also good but they don't have as good blacks but they are a bit brighter of a picture.

    I agree. The Panasonic 50" plasma TH-50PHD7UY is what I'll be buying as soon as I move into my new house at the end of the month. It's a commercial monitor so you'll need speakers and a tuner to hook up to it.
