Try the HK7200 (they rated it pretty low at like 110 watts, but has much more actual wattage). It was originally $1600 or so, and now you can find it for around $800.
Other choices would be Yamaha 2400, Denon 3805 (you might have to go a little above the $1k mark), Pioneer elite (I don't know which model).
Or try Audigon for some used models around that price range.
Nhan_H ~ I had looked at all three, and I have it down to the Denon or Yamaha for my receiver....but this thread is about my external amp that I want to use. Any ideas there? Only brands I know are like B&K and thats pretty much it. Let me know, thanks!
Sorry I misunderstood. I'm not that familiar with the Amp market, as I've no interest in separates at the moment (due to monetary reasons). B&K is an excellent brand. You should also consider Outlaw. They have some new stuff coming out, so the old stuff my drop a little in price. I thought I saw a 5-channel amp (150 Watts) for $1299. You might find it for under a grand on Audiogon.
Does anyone have any idea. I need a 5 or 7 channel 150w amp to mate with my (probably, tho not 100%) Denon avr 3805. Please give me any ideas, try to stay under 1000, or at least somewhere in that ballpark. thanks!
Drew~ I need 9 channels of output (7.1 for zone 1, and stereo zone 2). Thanks tho.
As for the Marantz and Aragon, they are intruguing, are there any other options? The 2007 is nice but it might be out of my price range. Plus I'm only really looking for 150w (tho the ability to expand later is nice). Thanks for the help, keep the ideas coming!
Go shopping and see what there is. And if you're going to couple an amp to an already good receiver, then it is obvious you're concerned about sonic. Wattage means nothing. A 40W amp can sound better than a 110W receiver. You really need to go to a dealer and *HEAR* the difference between the Denon and whatever amp you're going to use and see if the difference is great enough, or whether the amp you add will only be a lateral move from the Denon internal amps.
