Hi there

I've got an old stereo with surround sound but it only has stereo RCA inputs. Was wondering if there is any way to convert 5.1 surround output from a DVD player into a stereo RCA.

Sounds like an odd request but it drives me nuts watching DVD's cos most have them only have a 5.1 audio channel and the music is always louder than the dialogue.

Cheers

Connecting with the RCA analog connection and playing the 5.1 DD track will give you downmixed Dolby Pro-Logic (aka "Dolby Surround") out of the analog outs. Every DVD player is required to downmix DD according to spec. Switching your surround receiver to "Pro-Logic" will allow you to hear this downmix. However, a DVD player's downmix varies in quality, and Pro-Logic is a poor substitute for true Dolby Digital (only mono and reduced frequency response in the surrounds). But you should be able to get a surround effect from most movies.
