Suggestions? My father-in-law is in need of a speaker upgrade. One wrinkle is that he needs the rear channels to be inwalls (or in-ceiling).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Haven't had experience with these speakers, but given your budget (kinda tough to get in the budget, given the in-walls), I found:

    http://ww3.onecall.com/PID_19020.htm
    NHT in-walls ($200)

    http://ww3.onecall.com/PID_20803.htm
    Infinity Entra Center 2 ($141)

    http://ww3.onecall.com/PID_20800.htm
    Infinity Entra 1 (161 pr)

    http://ww3.onecall.com/PID_20819.htm
    Infinity PS8 Subwoofer ($202)

    Total: $704.

Have no idea how these would work with your room/receiver, but there weren't any other replies, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Klipsch makes a wide variety of in-wall speakers that sound very nice when I heard them. Go take a look at there website.

Try Hometheaterdirect.com, as they have what you're looking for--both regular and in-wall/ceiling speakers in your price range.
