Hello, I just picked up an Xbox and was going through the setup... under Audio it has a selection for DD5.1 (not selectable) as well as stereo (default) and DTS (not selectable).

I have the DVD kit and the Monster HD output cables, but I am confused about the audio. The Monster cables for HD have component video out, but two normal rca jacks for audio that look like analog to me.

How do you get DD5.1 without either an optical out or digital coaxial out?

I have to leave town for a few days, but I will check back when I get home.

Please be kind.... I spent 98% of the time playing Halo instead of trying to answer this question.....

    Thanks,

    Steve

The monster cables have a little dongle thingy near the input on the XBOX. I believe you have to buy the Monster optical cable, since it doesn't just accept a straight optical connection, but rather a 3.5 stereo-looking connector. Perhaps you can use a standard optical cable and get some kind of adapter? I don't know, I just went ahead and bought the Monster one.

The monster audio cable you can purchase is an adapter with a standard optical cable.
