I have a Panasonic HT740 system, 50" lcd sony wega, and directv dvr. I was wondering how I could, if possible get the surround sound from the television signal. Right now, only the front speakers produce sound. I have the directv box connected to the receiver by plain old rca cables. Thanks for any help.

If your directtv box has an toslink or spdif output, you may be able to set it to output a dolby digital signal. Otherwise, just put the panasonic in dolby prologic ii movie mode.

If I remember correctly, I read somewhere here on the HTF that these Panasonic htib's don't support DD or DTS from external sources, only from the built-in dvd player. I tried looking at the manual on Panasonics website and it makes no mention (that I could find) of how to hook up and engage DD or DPLII from external devices.
