We are looking for a 42" HD ready plasma for our den. We just want it for movies and regular tv. We don't need speakers sice we have surround sound. Our salesman is recommending the Sony PFM-42B2. He says it's ideally suited for our application but we're not sure. What's the best 42" plasma on the market that's HD ready(we have a high def cable box) and without speakers?

You looking to save money? I mean the Sony I am sure is decent enough.

For the money I still like the Panasonic ED Commercial Plasma Panels.

The best, without speakers, tuners, etc, one choice would be the Fujitsu.

I don't know if this helps at all (since I don't know the price of the Sony), but I was at the mall yesterday and stopped by a Dell kiosk (sp?). They had an HD-ready 42" plasma which looked very nice. It did come with a stand a speakers and cost $2,999.00.

Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic. (IMO, you don't get enough for the extra cost for the Fujitsu.)

Dell isn't a bad choice, but I don't think you'll get the discount on it that you will from a normal consumer electronics company at a normal dealer.
