I am really looking at the panasonic 42" plasmas right now.

is it worth it to purchase the HD version over the non-HD version?

The difference in price won't absolutely kill me, but i guess i'm looking for the best bang for my buck.

Also, do you guys think this 42" is the best way to go?

    Thanks!

I have been very impressed with the ED Panasonic plasmas. Yeah, the HD models do look better but from a normal viewing distance the ED models really do impress.

It really comes down to money for you in the end. Whats the most you're willing to spend. If your budget only allows you to buy the ED set than go for it and be happy with it. It's a great tv. If you can afford the HD model though than go for that. At a normal viewing distance of 8-10 feet though the differences won't be massive. Panasonic seems to be making the best consumer plasmas right now.

as i research more and more, it seems ED is the way to go.

    but what about size?
    42 or 50?

my viewing distance is about 9-11 feet...we're going to put it above the fireplace

    thx!

Go for the 50" unit. It'll also aliviate the need to decide between ED and HD (they're all HD)

Yeah, at 10 feet or more the 50" is the best option.
