I'd call for service. If the beam isn't cutting off when the power is shut off (resulting in a bright spot in the center of the screen) this can damage the CRT (burn-in).

I had the exact problem with my original 40X81 last year. It ended up having the red CRT completely replaced, but I recieved a new set as the red problem was there right out of the box.
