I kind of wondered that in the past. I suppose if you strip one pair back so that it connects to the one speaker, then the other pair (which is longer) would be free to run to the other surround speaker by itself.

hmmm. I thought this cable is for biwiring speakers that provide two sets of binding posts, nearly always mains.

well Martha Stewart says we can use it for bunches of things...biwiring, connecting two speakers, combining alternate wires and lowering the inductance...take it fishing and string the fish...:D

I would have to agree that bi-wiring is the obvious need for this type of cable.
