I currently have a Soundblaster Live 5.1 Sound card and it I would like to get all the speakers playing from a 2ch source. Kind of like 5 channel stereo only my receiver doesn't have that feature. However, it does have 5.1 RCA inputs. Could i just take the 2 channels from the sound card and use y splitters to distribute the signal to the rears/center/sub?

How would this affect stereo imaging?

Alex,

That solution would work just fine. Also, you could get a wire to merge the L/R signal into a mono signal that is sent to the centre. All this would get you the equivalent of the 5ch stereo mode on some receivers. Stereo imaging isn't generally an issue with 5ch sound, as people are more concerned with filling a room with sound, rather than critical listening.

Cheers,
Mal
