I realize it's a bit early, but I wanted to start setting up the field.

Basically, I'm going to do this a bit different than most tourneys. Everyone 'nominates' (for lack of a better term) the Christmas movies they think should be in. There's no limit on the number of films you can list, and you should list all that you want, regardless of what others have done. I'm basically going to rank order the films by how many votes they get, and use that for seeding. There will also be a minimum number of votes needed (yet to be determined) to get in, to prevent an obscure film from beating out a classic just because almost everyone had to abstain.

I'm also not going to worry about getting 32 or 64 or 128 films. I'll just use first round byes.

The only other thing is that the winners from the 2 previous years (It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story) are automatically in, and will be getting the two top seeds.

I'll probably start the actual tournament shortly after Thanksgiving, but wanted to have time for selecting and seeding the field.

I should also mention that we're not really limited to 'movies' per se (e.g., A Charlie Brown Christmas is appropriate) and it's up to you to decide what qualifies as a Christmas movie. If enough others agree with you, it'll get in, if not it won't. So don't hestitate to nominate Die Hard if you view it as a Christmas film.

    Erik,

Is your Grinch nomination the live action or the animated?

    Scott,

I'm not interested in a worst Xmas movie, although someone else might be, so I won't include your last list. And for now, I'm not going to include your middle list, so if you do decide to vote for those, please let me know.

The only good Christmas themed films I can think of are

    It's a Wonderful Life
    Life of Brian
    The Nightmare Before Christmas
    Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
    Scrooge (1951)
    Die Hard
    The Bishop's Wife

none of the others do much for me
