    Greetings!

Been very happy with my recent acquisition of the Sony
34" widescreen set. However the increased definition
is bringing out some inherent flaws in my nice but
decidedly dated Pioneer DV-05. I've pretty much made up
my mind to upgrade to one of the nice Denon players, with
    the new Silicon Image chipset.

    So the question is....

When using component cables and the progressive output
from the denon rig, does this automatically override, or
shut off, the Sonys own line doubler or DRC or 3:2 pulldown
in favor of the Denon circuitry? In other words, will the Sony "sense" the progressive signal and let the Denon work it's magic?

As always, great reading here..and thanks in advance!

The simple answer to your question is "Yes".

A slightly more complicated answer is that the DRC only applies to 480i input signals. The 480p from your progressive-scan DVD player or 1080i from a set-top box or anything other than 480i is processed directly without intervention from the DRC.

But the DRC and Cinemotion does a real nice job on DVD movies coming from a 480i player. Very close to the picture quality from a progressive-scan player.

I have that same tv and a new Sony progressive scan dvd player and I have found that with Cinemotion turned on and DRC up the progressive scan is much better from the tv...

On my television, with the dvd player's progressive scan turned on it looked worse than interlaced on the player.... so I just leave it off and use the tv's Cinemotion.

    Is this a problem?

How are Denon players? My Sony player is doing some wierd stuff when compared to an older one I have. Wierd artifacts are showing up on black screens but when I use the X-Box for the same film they dissappear.... I think I am going to be looking into getting a new dvd player... What do you recommend?

Is the Denon player better than the Cinemotion?

Well I haven't picked up the Denon yet.. still trying to chose a model.. a good friend is very happy with the 1600.. and he's much more well-read on the subject than I am.
Im hoping a good progressive scan player with a great chipset and all the other bells/whistles will eliminate some of the "combing" or "smearing" I'm seeing on the new TV... I have come to notice it's only occuring on some discs and not others.. so I'm hoping its a DVD player issue. The DV-05 is a great machine but not sure it's keeping up with the demands of high-def displays.
I'll let you know when I get a player..which will probably be in a few hours [IMG]

Well... they closed early today at Magnolia Hi-Fi [IMG]
I went with the Denon 2800Mk.II.. absolutely great pic
and the smearing/ghosting/combing or whatever that annoying
little anomaly I was experiencing w/the interlaced Pioneer player is gone... and no chroma bug either!!
But..I couldn't stop there... picked up the Samsung 151
HDTV tuner also.. and I seem to be getting all the Portland
channels... with a 14.99 RCA antenna that I snagged for 6.99 at Best Buy 'cause it was an open-box...
I think Im DONE... well...you know..for now anyway!
    Cheers!
