Thanks for the update, Travis! Mixed feelings on that premiere date. On one hand, summer TV is slim pickings so I'll be happy to have something good to watch and I'm glad the end of "Orphan Black" is that much further away. On the other hand, I was really looking forward to seeing it in April, perhaps paired with "Doctor Who".

Interestingly, the later release date means Tatiana Maslany is out of Emmy contention for this year.

They broadcasting delayed Class in the US to pair that with Doctor Who. So, unfortunate on two fronts there (if it really did impact Orphan Black).

With the premiere of the final season a week from Saturday, more information is starting to dribble out, including the guide synopses for the first three episodes:
Season 5 - Ep 1 - The Few Who Dare
Original Air Date: 10 June, 2017

Sarah is deeply wounded and struggling to stay alive on the Island. Driven deep into its forest by Neolutionists and worse, she strives to make it far enough to rescue Cosima. Meanwhile, a recovering Cosima reunites with Delphine, but there’s way more going on this Island than Cosima imagined and Delphine can’t give her all the answers she needs. What is clear is that Rachel is now in firmly in charge at the right-hand of the 170-year-old founder of Neolution, PT Westmorland. Back home, Neolution puts the screws to Alison and Donnie in their hunt for Helena. The sestras couldn’t be further apart when they need most to be together.

Season 5 - Ep 2 - Clutch of Greed
Original Air Date: 17 June, 2017

Captured by Neolution Sarah receives a damning ultimatum from Rachel: come into the fold, or lose your family. Her decision causes a clash with Kira who begins exploring her own maturity. Meanwhile, Ferdinand struggles to get a handle on Rachel’s new velvet glove mandate in pursuit of the clones. With Neolutionists and Ferdinand watching their every move, Felix brings an old ally into the mix to help his family get Kira to safety. On the Island, Cosima struggles to comprehend the reality of the Neolution myth made real.

Season 5 - Ep 3 - Beneath Her Heart
Original Air Date: 24 June, 2017

Stuck on the sidelines with Neolutionists crawling all over her home, Alison seeks to return to her community center, but Bailey Downs has moved on from her. As she flounders to take back some semblance of control, the ghost of friendships’ past rears its handsome head. Art and his new partner show up at the Hendrix residence to continue their search for Helena, forcing Art to make a difficult moral judgement.

The first season titles were all quoted from Charles Darwin. The second season titles were all quoted from Francis Bacon. The third season titles were all quoted from President Dwight D. Eisenhower's Farewell Address. The fourth season titles were all quoted from the works of feminist science and technology scholar Donna Haraway. If those titles are any indication, it looks like the episode titles for this final season will all be quoted from the poem "Protest" by Ella Wheeler Wilcox, from her collection Poems of Problems:

To sin by silence, when we should protest,
Makes cowards out of men. The human race
Has climbed on protest. Had no voice been raised
Against injustice, ignorance, and lust,
The inquisition yet would serve the law,
And guillotines decide our least disputes.
The few who dare, must speak and speak again
To right the wrongs of many. Speech, thank God,
No vested power in this great day and land
Can gag or throttle. Press and voice may cry
Loud disapproval of existing ills;
May criticise oppression and condemn
The lawlessness of wealth-protecting laws
That let the children and childbearers toil
To purchase ease for idle millionaires.

Therefore I do protest against the boast
Of independence in this mighty land.
Call no chain strong, which holds one rusted link.
Call no land free, that holds one fettered slave.
Until the manacled slim wrists of babes
Are loosed to toss in childish sport and glee,
Until the mother bears no burden, save
The precious one beneath her heart, until
God’s soil is rescued from the clutch of greed
And given back to labor, let no man
Call this the land of freedom.

My tuning adapter crapped out, so the season premiere didn't record. Fortunately, BBC America has made it available to stream for free.

I rewatched the fourth season finale on Blu-Ray right beforehand. Mostly it seems to line up, except that Sarah was pretty obviously shot as well as stabbed in the leg in finale but she only has the leg wound now. Makes it a bit more plausible that she could survive, but feels a bit like a cheat.

Art's new partner is really tall. She's also in bed with Neolution. I never much cared for his previous partner, so throwing him together with someone villainous at least gives them a more interesting note to play.

Nothing will ever beat Donnie covertly sneaking off through the woods, dragging a roller suitcase behind him as he goes.

That stick in the gut better not have ruined Helena's pregnancy.

This PT Westmoreland is quite the cult figure.

With the Creature running around, the island feels even more like the Island of Doctor Moreau.

Great start to the season with lots of questions still in the air. Is Sarah just imagining communicating with her daughter or is there something actually going on there?

Alison subplots are usually played for laughs, but tonight's hour did a great job delving into the pathos of being Alison Hendrix in this world. I loved seeing her go toe to toe with Rachel and have Rachel blink.

I take it from Felix's “the weirdest people get one” reaction that Donnie has a massive schlong.

They finally get the bodies removed from their property! That was an interesting way for that situation to resolve. It is hard to believe that there are only 7 episodes left in the whole series.

I always thought it was pretty funny that Alison seemed pretty unfazed by having let her best friend die but I do like that they went back to Ainsley's death.

Donnie being pulled underneath the curtain face first was an inspired bit of comedy.

That makes sense. My first thought was that he some kind of piercing but that's insane for that character.
