Subaru announced that a special version of the WRX STi will go on sale in the US this year! It will have a 2.5 turbo flat 4 good for 300hp/300lbs-ft, 6 spd, driver adjustable electronic center diff... it's a mass-produced WRC car, just the thing for screaming through Sisteron later this month [IMG]
No word on price yet, I'm guessing low $30,000s, a 30,000 Subaru is not for everyone, but I want one!

WOW, that car looks so much better than the WRX. I love the interior, looks really cool with the 2 contrasting colors. Those wheel flares look mean too. Should sell fast. Here are the interior pics.

    You're kidding right? Man, 300hp and 300 lb-ft? That's insane!
I'd hate to pay the insurance premiums on that baby. And I'll bet you a Canadian dollar that it will squeak and make creaky noises within a month of driving it! I bet that the road noise will be terrible too. [IMG]

The entire Imnpreza lineup is getting this face lift, including the regular WRX which will look the same as the STi only without the WRC-style wing and oversized hood scoop but wll be mechanicaly the same as the current WRX.

    YIKES!! [IMG]
I didn't think Subaru was going to send over the full-blown (literally in this case!) Impreza WRX STi to the US market. Most of the motoring press had reported that the initial STi was going to be rated at around 265-270 bhp, with the more powerful version coming a year later.
Gawd, it appears not a few BMW M3 and Porsche 911 drivers are going to be surprised by this car actually keeping up with them--and probably passing them in wet weather. [IMG]

I don't like the gold rims, and the tail spoiler is a bit much. This car screams out to be pulled over.

I'd love something like this if made with more 'stealth'.

The STi has never been about stealth [IMG]
Like most other people, I'm amazed that Subaru are releasing a full-on WRX STi over here. This thing ought to at least keep up with the M3/911C2 in the dry, and in the wet there'll be no competition at all. And I say that as an M3 driver!
It's pretty amazing. The looks are a bit OTT for my style, and yeah, it's a bit unrefined, but damn it's quick, and it'll be easy to mod too. They'll sell all they can make with no trouble at all no matter what they price it at. I'd guess low $30s too.

The last Impreza super car like this, the 22B, was rated at 300hp, but in actual fact it was more like 350+ according to the magazines. I wonder if the same goes for this one.

My best friend owns a '02 WRX. He's modded' the pulleys, intake, exhaust, interior-dash, and has been reluctant to mess with any of the many cat's below.

Looks like they kept the same stupid drink holder everyone's been complaining about over at the respective forums.

This car is quick. No doubt. Makes his heavily modded' Civic Si pale in comparison. No tire slippage at all with the AWD.

Hey I like having 4 doors, but then again I enjoyed the policeman's ball mission in Grand Theft Auto 3. [IMG]
I won't buy it because I know that the insurance premiums will be killer. And I'd be worrying about getting scratches on the damned thing!
AWD would be perfect for drag racing during the Canadian winters. A moot point though, considering the global-warming affecting us lately. [IMG]

Kinda neat - but I think I'd buy a Nissan 350Z over it though.

And yes, the gold rims are tacky.

I think the gold rims are great. The WRC car has gold rims, so I see why this one does as well. It's meant to be a street version of the WRC Rally car.

In the context of the WRC, I don't mind the gold rims, but when you start seeing Civics and Corollas with them, then it becomes real tacky. Plus, I wonder how many people out there have even heard of the WRC or realize that the STi is based on the rally edition?

I think the most exposure to WRC we have in America is video games and the WRC series on SpeedVision, now SpeedTV.
